DAVID STONE | OUR TOWN TEMPLE
Dr. Michael Alexander, an associate dean at the Baylor School of Music, will direct the Temple Symphony Orchestra during this year’s Holiday Concert.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 at Temple High School.
Alexander serves as professor of String Music Education at Baylor University and is the associate dean of academic affairs for the Baylor School of Music. He joined the faculty in 2006 after 22 years of teaching orchestra at Stratford High School in Houston.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to rehearse and conduct the Temple Symphony in their 2022 Holiday Concert,” Alexander said today. “I know a number of the orchestra members and have been impressed by the orchestra’s programming and performance over the years under the baton of Maestro Tom Fairlie.”
“The program will feature a number of my holiday favorites, including standards from both the classical repertoire and popular culture,” he said. “I encourage the audience to bring their voices to join in the singing as we conclude the program with the traditional ‘Sing-a-long.'”
Alexander holds degrees from Southwestern University, Sam Houston State University and the University of Houston. His duties at Baylor include overseeing the undergraduate academic curriculum, supervising string student teachers, instruction in classroom string pedagogy and directing the Baylor String Project.
